If the fashion suits you and is sensible, follow it; if it is not, have things made to suit yourself.  Independence in this respect is highly commendable, to say the least.

whenever you read about a person being dressed in the hight of fashion, that you are reading about a dude.

–it proclaims you a fashion idiot.  The man or woman who wears such boots or shoes, and produces corns and bunions, is a mental crank.

to sweep the ground; such women are not clean and tidy, and will make “slovenly,” dirty housekeepers.

A tidy, cleanly girl will not wear such a dress, no matter what the fashion is.

that you are a dude is a desire to follow strictly the extremes of fashion.–No dudes, no fashions.

It is very injurious to both health and morals–injurious to the health, if you are really sorry, and injurious to the morals, if, as it is, in thousands of cases, simply a fashion.  You have no right to violate nature’s laws, nurse sorrow, nor impress it upon others by wearing long faces and black robes.  Modesty alone, should prevent you from doing it–from advertising your frailties.  Stop and think a little about this relic of barbarism, and sacrilegious rite.

–it is an evidence of slovenliness, and no tidy, cleanly woman will do it, no matter what the fashion is.
